Alejandro the student
During a campaign rally in Reno, Nevada, Sarah Palin and the McCain campaign invoked the “Joe the Plumber” theme one more time, this time, expanding it to include several kinds of “average Joes.”
Something that may have slipped past some inattentive observers was Tito the Builder, a Colombian immigrant that “made it in the USA.” That’s the second time that Colombia has figured a prominent role in the McCain campaign’s message towards the general public. The first was during the third presidential debate when McCain criticized Obama for voting against a Free Trade agreement with the Andean nation.
What’s troubling is how the McCain campaign is pigeonholing all Colombians as Republican supporters. I’m Colombia, born and raised, but I’m also American, naturalized and raised, and I will NOT be voting for McCain.
Tito the Builder, however, is mad as hell:
Tito doesn’t like how “the press” went after Joe the Plumber, because, you know, he’s not a licensed plumber, and, you know, plumbers generally don’t make more than $250k a year. Maybe he should be mad at the people that are making him (and every person with a profession) a political pawn.
Just ask Palin, who is now throwing you into her political stump speech.
Tito, mi hermano, it’s simple really, if don’t make $250k or more a year, that means you’ll get a tax break under the Obama plan. What’s that you say? That we can’t trust Obama’s word on his tax plan? That he’s spreading the wealth around? That he’s a socialist because he’s going to, you know, put “your tax dollars at work”?
McCain’s health care plan may mean that some people will actually see an increase in their taxes! And that’s what the campaign itself says.
Well, I’m Alejandro The Grad School Student, and I have a ton of student loans I’ve gotta worry about, and I do not make over 250K, so hell fucking no I won’t vote for McCain.
